The roots of Parkview Christian Retirement Community (originally Oregon Baptist Retirement Home)  reach back to 1944 when a group of visionaries saw the need for affordable housing, services and fellowship for seniors. Established as a not-for-profit, the focus has always been on putting the needs of our residents first.

Here’s an overview of our rich history:

1944  Seeking to “provide a retirement home for members of the Columbia Baptist churches of Oregon”, the Oregon Baptist Retirement Home Society was formed.

1945  Oregon Baptist Retirement Home opened after purchasing the Methodist Deaconess’ Home on NE Flanders Street in Portland.

1948  The Flanders property was expanded.

1960  Further expansion to keep up with growing demand.

1987  Oregon Baptist Retirement Home leased the property where Parkview sits today.

1996  The property was purchased and a state-licensed assisted living community was added to provide additional services to residents.

2006  Computer center and library enhancements were made.

2009  Oregon Baptist Retirement Home was renamed Parkview Christian Retirement Community.

2010  A new game room and exercise room were added.

2011  A full time Wellness Coordinator was hired and charged with creating a new wellness program. The kitchen was remodeled, the exteriors of the buildings painted, and new roofs and windows installed.

2012  Due to the success of the wellness program, the exercise area was remodeled and a second wellness center was added. Wi-Fi was made available in the library, community room and the new meeting room that was added to accommodate the growing number of activities and interest groups held on campus.

2013  A dedicated gardening area was added and outdoor sitting areas were enhanced. Exterior lighting on campus was improved.

2015  A drive-through portico was added to the main entrance of the community and the kitchen at assisted living was remodeled.

Ongoing  We continue to make improvements and renovate our community to keep up with the ever changing needs of today’s active senior. These improvements include updating our apartments as well as the overall community.
